Individual sports

Assignment to a testing pool has an effect on application procedures for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs). Depending on the testing pool to which the athlete belongs and the substance used, the documents required may need to be sent to Antidoping Switzerland either before or after a doping test has been carried out.

More information on the application procedure for a TUE can be found under “Exemptions”.

Registered Testing Pool (RTP)

Athletes who have been assigned to the registered testing pool of their international sports association are automatically assigned to the Registered Testing Pool (RTP). Antidoping Switzerland may now also assign additional athletes to this testing pool.
In addition to the detailed whereabouts information, these athletes must now specify a daily time slot of 60 minutes between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. during which they are available for doping tests.

However, doping tests can (and will) also be carried out outside of this 60-minute time slot. Three filing failures and / or missed tests during this 60-minute time slot within a period of 18 months may result in a ban of at least one year.

National Testing Pool (NTP)

Athletes are assigned to the National Testing Pool NTP by Antidoping Switzerland in conjunction with the relevant national association. Athletes in the NTP are required to provide Antidoping Switzerland with detailed whereabouts information. Three filing failures within a period of 18 months may result in a ban of at least one year.

General Testing Pool (GTP)

Athletes are assigned to the General Testing Pool GTP by Antidoping Switzerland in conjunction with the relevant national association. Athletes in the GTP are required to provide Antidoping Switzerland with their full postal address, address of their employer or place of study, e-mail address, telephone number, regular training venue and any squad sessions.

No Testing Pool

Licensed athletes and participants in competitions organized by Swiss Olympic or a member association who are not assigned to the RTP, NTP or GTP. These athletes are not subject to any particular requirements.
