The procedure for carrying out doping controls is clearly defined by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)'s International Standard for Testing (IST). This standard is must be respected by all testing organisations. In Switzerland, doping controls are carried out in accordance with the implementing provisions on Swiss Olympic's Doping Statute. Swiss doping controls have been ISO certified since January 2004.
In Switzerland, Antidoping Switzerland is primarily responsible for carrying out doping controls in competition and training. The international federations, WADA and the national anti-doping agencies may also carry out controls or have controls conducted. The doping samples collected may only be analysed by a WADA-accredited laboratory. The Laboratoire suisse d’Analyse du Dopage (LAD) in Lausanne is one of these.
