Team Sports

Athletes engaged in team sports at national or international performance level can be assigned to a testing pool either by Antidoping Switzerland or their corresponding International Federation. With regard to Switzerland, there are the following three testing pools: Team Sports I, Team Sports II, Team Sports III. Team will be informed by Antidoping Switzerland or by their IF to which testing pool they have been assiged to. Depending on their level of testing pool, teams are subject to different whereabouts requirements as well as the procedure of a potential TUE enquiry.

Some athletes engaged in sports in very small teams are assigned to the individual sports‘ testing pools. These are notably beachvolleyball, bobsleigh and rowing. Athletes affected by this special issue will be informed personally upon all details conerning their obligations.

Whereabouts

Athletes engaging in team sports are subject to whereabouts requirements. Whereabouts information is provided not through the individual athletes themselves but by the so called team administrator instead. The team administrator is a team-member of legal age bearing responsibility for the submission of accurate whereabouts information of the team.

Deadlines for submitting whereabouts informations are:

  • for the 1st quarter: 15 December
  • for the 2nd quarter: 15 March
  • for the 3rd quarter: 15 June
  • for the 4th quarter: 15 September

Any changes concerning whereabouts must be reported and updated via SIMON whereabouts.

Applying for Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE)

If athletes of team sports are required to take a prohibited substance or use a prohibited method for reasons of health, they can apply for and be granted a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). This allows the athlete to use prohibited substances or methods on the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods issued by Antidoping Switzerland (Prohibited List). The application for a TUE is reviewed by the independent TUE Committee of Antidoping Switzerland.

For national competitions as well as during training and off-season periods, a TUE application has to be submitted to Antidoping Switzerland. However, in cases of international competition, a TUE application has to be submitted to the corresponding International Federation, unless the national TUE approved by Antidoping Switzerland is accepted by the IF.

All testing pool athletes have to apply for TUE in advance. Details concerning the procedure for TUE submission here.
